Frisco Arts and Culture Council Selects Six Artists to Paint Recreation Pathway Murals

In July, the Frisco Arts and Culture Council (FACC) selected six Colorado-based artists to install recreational pathway murals along Frisco’s multi-use pathways around Frisco. Mural installations were subsequently completed in mid-August and  included four murals located in Frisco’s downtown core area and two murals located near Meadow Creek Park.

Artist and Mural Site Details

The six Colorado-based artists selected by the FACC who installed recreational pathway murals around Frisco include: Christie Charleston, Daniel Crosier, Chelsea Hart, Bobby Lopez, Juan Morales, and James Walsh. Each artist took one to seven days to complete their 7-foot-wide by 20-foot-long designs using water-based latex paint. Murals reflect the spirit and beauty of Frisco, and designs are intended to be unexpected and imaginative.

Mural Scavenger Hunt

The FACC is encouraging the community to take a walk, run, or bike ride to explore the six new murals on Frisco’s recreational pathways. While exploring, take photos of all six murals and show the photos to staff at the Frisco/Copper Visitor Information Center at their temporary location on the corner of 1st Avenue and Main Street to receive a free sticker. A map of all the mural locations may be found by visiting TownofFrisco.com or may be picked up at the Frisco/Copper Visitor Information Center.

Project Goals

The Frisco Arts and Culture Council was founded to support local creatives and add to the growing public art scene in Frisco, as well as support Frisco’s goals around art and culture as expressed in the Frisco Arts and Culture Strategic Plan. The muralists selected met the criteria outlined in the application: to inspire a sense of surprise and delight with artistic interpretations of the Frisco community’s culture and values and to enhance the built environment.

About the Frisco Arts and Culture Council

In January 2023, Frisco Town Council approved the Frisco Five-Year Arts and Culture Strategic Plan, which recommended the creation of a Frisco Arts and Culture Council (FACC). Subsequently, in early summer 2023, seven community members were appointed to the Frisco Arts and Culture Council. The FACC has taken on numerous projects, including a robust mural program, stipends for creative July 4th floats, a painting workshop at the Marina, and arts pop-up events around music and ice art. Future events will include a mural commissioned for the pedestrian tunnel under Highway 9 at the Frisco Adventure Park and more sound and lighting workshops.
